JUST A THOUGHT

BANANAS

www.usafitnessdirect.com

Bananas. Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the

number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from

depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills -- eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect way to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood

pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brainpower. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that to

avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine, "eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best

value foods around.

So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say,

"A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

"They found a little courage

That simmered in the sun.

They blended it with patience

And then with a sudden twist

They stirred it all together

CALLINGS

Finding and Following an Authentic Life

By Gregg Levoy

Exert from The Call to Attention

The particle chamber is a container for making the invisible visible. So are the compass, microscope, telescope, radio, and television; so are scientists, psychologists, and artists; so is conscious attention. The right instrument is essential, but turning it on is even more important. By turning on our devoted attention, by becoming students of our lives, archivists of life’s details, we may distinguish the calls that are raining on us constantly, though they are obscured by our inattention. We need to listen “as if to hear from behind the wall the songs of birds who populate the secret garden,” as the sculptor Auguste Rodin once said.

Exert from Receiving Calls

Members of a tribe in Malaysia called the Senoi put great stock in their dreams and gather each morning to share them. When they dream of being chased, they assume that whatever is chasing them is an ally rather than an enemy. So they turn and face their pursuer to inquire what the chase is all about-----what the message might be that the pursuer bears.

Exert from Invoking Calls

The making of consciousness, James Hillerman has said, is nothing more than the art of conversation, and unconsciousness is nothing more than letting things fall out of conversation.

In active imagination, which can last an hour or a lifetime, we interact with images, voices, characters, our past or future, our work or talents or emotions. We parley with dream figures, real or imagined mentors, parts of ourselves, even with archetypes: the wise old man or woman, the warrior, the fool, the sleeping beauty or the sleeping giant. We tell it how we feel, inquire about how it feels, ask for advice, negotiate treaties.

Exert from Saying No to Calls

What happens when a martyr stops making sacrifices? When a pleaser stops pleasing? When a true-blue friend changes color? When a whisperer suddenly shouts, or a screamer suddenly whispers? What happens when you change whatever it was in you that others had come to rely on?

........what matters is how we convert them into our own creations. These are the raw materials for composing a life. They're the straw that can be woven into gold. .

.......work with what's there

.....find the destination in destiny

.....what author Deepak Chopra calls, ”the field of infinite possibilities.”

Exert from Saying Yes to Calls

“Have you really lived ten thousand or more days,

or have you lived one day ten thousand or more times?”

---Wayne Dyer

In saying yes to our calls, we bring flesh to word and form to faith. We bring substance to dreams, to passions, and to the ancient urgencies. We ground ourselves in life and bring ourselves into being as alchemists and magicians in their finest hours.

AND JUST ONE MORE THOUGHT

PRINCESS CRUISE SHIP

If you have already seen this....my question is: "How many of you are going to or have already signed up? Teehee......

At dinner about 2 years ago on a cruise through the western Mediterranean aboard a Princess liner, we noticed an elderly lady sitting alone along

the rail of the grand stairway in the main dining room. I also noticed that

all the staff, ships officers, waiters, busboys, etc., all seemed very

familiar with this lady. I asked our waiter who the lady was expecting to be

told she owned the line, but he said he only knew that she had been on board

for the last four cruises, back to back.

As we left the dining room one evening I caught her eye and stopped to

say hello. We chatted and I said, "I understand you've been on this ship for

the last four cruises". She replied, "Yes, that's true." I stated, "I don't

understand?" She replied without a pause, "It's cheaper than a nursing

home".

Here's the proof -- when I get old and feeble, I am going to get on a

Princess Cruise Ship.

The average cost for a nursing home is $200 per day. I have checked on

reservations at Princess and I can get a long-term discount and senior

discount price of $135 per day. That leaves $65 a day for:

1. Gratuities, which will only be $10 per day.

2. I will have as many as 10 meals a day if I can waddle to the

restaurant, or I can have room service (which means I can have breakfast in

bed every day of the week).

3. Princess has as many as three swimming pools, a workout room, free

washers and dryers, and shows every night.

4. They have free toothpaste and razors, and free soap and shampoo.

5. They will even treat you like a customer, not a patient. An extra

$5 worth of tips will have the entire staff scrambling to help you.

6. I will get to meet new people every 7 or 14 days.

7. T.V. broken? Light bulb needs changing? Need to have the mattress

replaced? No Problem! They will fix everything and apologize for your

inconvenience.

8. Clean sheets and towels every day, and you don't even have to ask

for them.

9. If you fall in the nursing home and break a hip you are on

Medicare. If you fall and break a hip on the Princess ship they will upgrade

you to a suite for the rest of your life.

Now hold on for the best! Do you want to see South America, the Panama

Canal, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, or name where you want to go?

Princess will have a ship ready to go. So don't look for me in a nursing

home, just call shore to ship.

P.S. And don't forget, when you die, they just dump you over the side

at no charge.
